He took over the presidency from his father Lin Ting-sheng on 17 March 2006. However, his wife Lin Kuo Wen-yen is widely considered as the de facto executor in Tatung.

The 2008 Summer Olympics opening ceremony was held at the Beijing National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest. It began at 20:00 China Standard Time (UTC+08:00) on Friday, 8 August 2008, as the number 8 is considered to be auspicious. The number 8 is associated with prosperity and confidence in Chinese culture. The artistic part of the ceremony comprised two parts titled "Brilliant Civilization" and "Glorious Era" respectively. The first part highlighted the Chinese civilization and the second part exhibited modern China and its dream of harmony between the people of the world. The stadium was full to its 91,000 capacity according to organizers.

Lin Tzu-chi is a Taiwanese weightlifter. She was to appear at the 2010 Asian Games, but was suspended from competition due to a positive drug test. Lin was banned until 2012. At the 2014 Asian Games, she set a world record in women's 63 kg, with a lift of 261 kg. She also set the clean and jerk record for her weight class, at 145 kg. The government of Taiwan awarded her NT$3 million for this accomplishment. Lin was suspended from the 2016 Summer Olympics due to another positive drug test result. The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled in November 2018, after an appeal by the World Anti-Doping Agency, that Lin was to serve an eight-year suspension, and additionally vacated all weightlifting medals, prizes and points earned by Lin after 24 June 2016.

Lin Hsin-i is a Taiwanese businessman. He served in the Democratic Progressive Party administration as Minister of Economic Affairs between 2000 and 2002, then as Vice Premier between 2002 and 2004.

Lin Yu-chun ; born 9 March 1986 in Taipei) is a Taiwanese singer, who gained fame by appearing on a Taiwanese talent show, One Million Star (超級星光大道), singing "I Will Always Love You" in the style of Whitney Houston's cover version. Lin is well known for his mezzo-soprano-like, and sometimes, contralto-like countertenor singing voice, although he has an adult speaking voice. According to many sources, Lin's voice is usually described as a mixture of Whitney Houston and Susan Boyle, with a dash of Cher. When Lin sings in his normal masculine voice rather than in a falsetto range, his voice actually somewhat sounds like Jamie Walters, or even possibly like Jackson Browne. In 2013, he competed in the second season of The Voice of China.
