He left federal politics to become Leader of the Saskatchewan Co-operative Commonwealth Federation and then the seventh Premier of Saskatchewan. His cabinet was the first democratic socialist government in North America and it introduced the continent's first single-payer, universal health care program.

Wayne Nathan Nance, also known as The Missoula Mauler, was an American man native to the state of Montana who was suspected of being a serial killer. Nance was shot and killed during a home invasion of a co-worker's residence; thus Nance was never formally charged, tried, or convicted of any murder. Authorities reported that physical evidence linked Nance to several unsolved murders and crimes.
