She completed her doctorate at Courant Institute NYU in 1964 under the joint supervision of Lipman Bers and Cathleen Morawetz. Her thesis concerned partial differential equations of mixed-type.

James Power Gordon
James Power Gordon was an American physicist known for his work in the fields of optics and quantum electronics. His contributions include the design, analysis and construction of the first maser in 1954 as a doctoral student at Columbia University under the supervision of C. H. Townes, development of the quantal equivalent of Shannon's information capacity formula in 1962, development of the theory for the diffusion of atoms in an optical trap in 1980, and the discovery of what is now known as the Gordon-Haus effect in soliton transmission, together with H. A. Haus in 1986. James P. Gordon was a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Science.
Frank Morriss
Frank E. Morriss was a film and television editor with more than fifty film and television program credits dating from 1968. He had a notable collaboration with the director John Badham extending from 1974 – 2004. Morriss' editing of Charley Varrick (1973) was nominated for the BAFTA Award. He was honored at the 1974 Primetime Emmy Awards as "film editor of the year" for the television film The Execution of Private Slovik. Morriss was nominated twice for the Academy Award for Best Film Editing: for Blue Thunder and for Romancing the Stone.
