Walter Brecht was a German scientist and longtime lecturer at the Institut für Papierfabrikation in the Technische Universität Darmstadt. He died in Darmstadt.

Georg Krause was a German cinematographer who worked on more than a hundred and thirty film and television productions during his career. In 1957 he worked on Stanley Kubrick's Paths of Glory.

Otmar Emminger was a German economist who served as the president of the Deutsche Bundesbank from 1977 to 1979.

Jan Nieuwenhuys was a Dutch painter and one of the early active founders of the Dutch Experimentalists group (Reflex) that later became part of CoBrA.

John Alcott, BSC was an English cinematographer known for his four collaborations with director Stanley Kubrick: 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), for which he took over as lighting cameraman from Geoffrey Unsworth in mid-shoot, A Clockwork Orange (1971), Barry Lyndon (1975), the film for which he won his Oscar, and The Shining (1980). Alcott died from a heart attack in Cannes, France in July 1986; he was 55. He received a tribute at the end of his last film No Way Out starring Kevin Costner.

Herma Szabo was an Austrian figure skater who competed in ladies' singles and pairs. As a single skater, she became the 1924 Olympic champion and a five-time world champion (1922–1926). She also won two world titles in pairs with Ludwig Wrede.
