Ivan Pavlovych Kazanets was a Ukrainian and Soviet politician, who served as the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR from 1963 to 1965. He was the minister of ferrous metallurgy of the Soviet Union for almost 20 years.

Megumi Ohnaka (大中恩), who also used the pseudonym Ai Tsuchida, was a Japanese composer known for his children's songs (doyo) and choruses, as well as his live "Song Song" parties, which he began in 1961.

Lila Bell Wallace was an American magazine publisher and philanthropist. She co-founded Reader's Digest with her husband Dewitt Wallace, publishing the first issue in 1922.

Lieselott Herforth was a German physicist and politician. She was a member of the State Council and the People's Chamber of the GDR and she was the first rector of a university in Germany.

Gerhard Heinrich Friedrich Otto Julius Herzberg, was a German-Canadian pioneering physicist and physical chemist, who won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1971, "for his contributions to the knowledge of electronic structure and geometry of molecules, particularly free radicals". Herzberg's main work concerned atomic and molecular spectroscopy. He is well known for using these techniques that determine the structures of diatomic and polyatomic molecules, including free radicals which are difficult to investigate in any other way, and for the chemical analysis of astronomical objects. Herzberg served as Chancellor of Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada from 1973 to 1980.
