Alfred Morrison Lay was a U.S. Representative from Missouri.

Alfred Page Lane was an American sports shooter who competed at the 1912 and 1920 Summer Olympics. He is a five-time Olympic Champion, and is the first of five shooters to have won two Olympic individual gold medals.

Alfred Grotjahn was a German physician, social hygienist, eugenicist, journalist-author and, for three years between 1921 and 1924, a Member of the Reichstag in the recently launched German republic. He became celebrated as a pioneer, and among admirers an inventor, of the discipline of "social hygiene" which, in Germany, was not merely an ephemeral euphemism for the sociological study of sexually transmitted diseases, but embraced a series of topics along the interface between sociology and medicine. When first he publicised his ideas at the start of the twentieth century he encountered a barrage of opposition from the powerful and increasingly politicised Eugenics lobby, but during the next three decades some of his own thinking came closer to that of the eugenicists: by the time he died he was sometimes identified as part of the eugenics movement. After he died, many of his ideas remained mainstream in Germany and among some medical scholars in North America through the 1930s, but by 1945 they had become discredited across Europe, alongside those of the eugenics movement itself, by their association with the Hitlerite atrocities. Within Germany, despite a few of his ideas turning up as government policy, Grotjahn was in the short term airbrushed out of history during the 1930s on account of his Jewish provenance. His son emigrated to the United States in 1937, ending up in Los Angeles, where he acquired notability on his own account as a psychoanalyst.

Alfred Stock was a German inorganic chemist. He did pioneering research on the hydrides of boron and silicon, coordination chemistry, mercury, and mercury poisoning. The German Chemical Society's Alfred-Stock Memorial Prize is named after him.

Sir Alfred Chester Beatty, who always signed his name A. Chester Beatty, was an American mining magnate, philanthropist and one of the most successful businessmen of his generation, who was given the epithet the "King of Copper" as a reference to his fortune. He became a naturalised British citizen in 1933, knighted in 1954 and made an honorary citizen of Ireland in 1957. He was a collector of African, Asian, European and Middle Eastern manuscripts, rare printed books, prints and objets d'art. Upon his move to Dublin in 1950 he established the Chester Beatty Library on Shrewsbury Road to house his collection; it opened to the public in 1954. The Collections were bequeathed to the Irish people and entrusted to the care of the State in his Irish will. He donated a number of papyrus documents to the British Museum, his second wife's collection of Marie Antoinette's personal furniture to the Louvre and a number of his personal paintings that once hung in the Picture Gallery of his London home to the National Gallery of Ireland. He also founded the Chester Beatty Institute in London which was later renamed the Institute of Cancer Research.

Alfred Zeisler was an American-born German film producer, director, actor and screenwriter. He produced 29 films between 1927 and 1936. He also directed 16 films between 1924 and 1949.

Alfred Berger was an Austrian pair skater. With his skating partner, Helene Engelmann, he became the 1924 Olympic champion and a two-time world champion.
