Augusto Matine was a Portuguese footballer and manager who played as a midfielder mostly for Benfica and Vitória de Setúbal at club level and nine times for the Portugal national team. Most notably, he managed the Mozambique national team.

Colonel John William Russell was an American equestrian who won a bronze medal at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Finland. After serving in the United States Army during World War II, he began competing in international equestrian tournaments and was eventually selected to join the United States team at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. After his success at the 1952 edition, he continued to participate in events around the world, but military duties and a broken bone in his horse caused him to miss the 1956 Summer Olympics. He retired from active competition that year and became the head of United States Modern Pentathlon Training Center, where he coached six United States Olympic modern pentathlon delegations, twenty-two World Championship teams, and helped organize two World Modern Pentathlon Championships. He retired and opened the Russell Equestrian Center and was inducted into the United States Show Jumping Hall of Fame in 2001.

Jan Konrad Liberda was a Polish football forward. Liberda played mostly for one team, Polonia Bytom, where he remained since 1950, until 1969. He ended his career in 1971 at AZ. He twice was the topscorer of the Ekstraklasa, in 1959 with 21 goals, and in 1962 with 16 goals. Also, in 1962, he won championship of Poland. All together, Liberda played in 304 of Polonia's games, scoring 146 goals.

Claude Moisy was a French journalist and writer. He was President of the Agence France-Presse from 1990 to 1993.

Yvette Alloo was a Belgian Paralympic table tennis player. She was the first Belgian to win a gold medal at a Paralympic Games.

He was a member of the Academia Brasileira de Letras, an elite group of 40 writers and poets similar to France's Académie Française, occupying Chair no 20, in succession to Aurélio de Lira Tavares. He was also a member of the regional Academia Norte-Riograndense de Letras, occupying Chair no 19. He was a member of the administrative council of the Associação Brasileira de Imprensa
