Edwin Oldfather Reischauer was an American diplomat, educator, and professor at Harvard University. Born in Tokyo to American educational missionaries, he became a leading scholar of the history and culture of Japan and East Asia. Together with George M. McCune, a Korean scholar, in 1939 he developed the McCune–Reischauer romanization of the Korean language.

Jean-Louis Barrault was a French actor, director and mime artist. Over his career, he acted in nearly 50 movies including Les beaux jours, Jenny, L'Or dans la Montagne and Under Western Eyes, Jean-Gaspard Deburau in Marcel Carné's film Les Enfants du Paradis and part of an international cast in The Longest Day (1962). He and his wife, actress Madeleine Renaud, formed their own troupe at the Theatre Marigny in Paris. He died from a heart attack in Paris at the age of 83.

Carlos Joseph Marcello was an American crime boss of the New Orleans crime family from 1947 until the late 1980s. G. Robert Blakey and other conspiracy theorists have asserted that Marcello along with Santo Trafficante Jr. and Sam Giancana masterminded the 1963 assassination of United States President John F. Kennedy in retaliation for federal prosecution that threatened their secret criminal organization's multibillion-dollar international organized crime empires.

John Eliot Sturges was an American film director. His films include Bad Day at Black Rock (1955), Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957), The Magnificent Seven (1960), The Great Escape (1963), and Ice Station Zebra (1968). In 2013, The Magnificent Seven was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Although both he and fellow director Preston Sturges were from the Chicago area and shared the same last name, they had no known close relation to each other.

Jane Tilden, born as Marianne Wilhelmine Tuch, (1910–2002) was an Austrian actress who enjoyed a long career on stage and in films and television shows. She was born as Marianne Tuch in Aussig, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. She was the sister of the cinematographer Walter Tuch. After making her debut on the stage in the early 1930s she appeared regularly in German and Austrian films during the Nazi era including the 1938 comedy The Blue Fox (1938). After the Second World War she worked regularly in film and television, increasingly in supporting roles. She was married three times, her husbands included the actor Erik Frey and composer Alexander Steinbrecher.

Johannes Wilhelm Arthur "Hänschen" Frömming was a German harness racing driver and trainer. He is one of the most legendary horsemen in European harness racing.

Rudolf Lange was a German SS functionary and police official during the Nazi era. With the invasion of the Soviet Union, he served in Einsatzgruppe A before becoming a commander in the Sicherheitsdienst (SD) and all RSHA personnel in Riga, Latvia. He attended the Wannsee Conference, and was largely responsible for implementing the murder of Latvia's Jewish population during Holocaust.
