Among other teams, he played for San Lorenzo of Argentina in the 1940s. He won the Colombian league title three times during his career.

He was succeeded by Mario Gobbi in early 2012. On early February 2018, Sanchez returned to the presidency of the team with 1,235 votes. He was succeeded by Duilio Monteiro Alves in 2021.

Emilio Ángel Sánchez Vicario is a former world No. 1 doubles professional tennis player from Spain. He won five Grand Slam doubles titles and the men's doubles silver medal at the 1988 Olympic Games. Sanchez is the older brother of multiple Grand Slam winner Arantxa, with whom he teamed up to win the 1990 Hopman Cup. After retiring, he captained Spain to Davis Cup victory in 2008.

He was also a recipient of the Albert Schweitzer Prize for Humanitarianism and a trustee of Economists for Peace and Security.
