Shigechiyo Izumi was a Japanese centenarian who was titled the oldest living person after the death of Niwa Kawamoto on 16 November 1976, also from Japan. His case was initially verified by Guinness World Records, who titled him the oldest man ever, but Guinness later withdrew their claim; in the 2012 edition Christian Mortensen was named the "oldest verified man ever" and Izumi was not mentioned.

Samira Khashoggi was a Saudi Arabian progressive author, as well as the owner and editor-in chief of Alsharkiah magazine. She was the sister of Saudi businessman Adnan Khashoggi, and the first wife of Egyptian-born businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed and the mother of filmmaker Dodi Fayed.

Kōji Wada was a Japanese actor.

Assi Rahbani was a Lebanese composer, musician and producer. He was part of the Rahbani Brothers, with his brother Mansour Rahbani. He married Lebanese singer Nouhad Haddad, more famous by her stage name, Fairuz. Their son Ziad Rahbani is also a very successful artist in music, theatre, and an influential political activist.

Harald Reinl was an Austrian film director. He is known for the films he made based on Edgar Wallace and Karl May books and also made mountain films, Heimatfilms, German war films and entries in such popular German film series as Dr. Mabuse, Jerry Cotton and Kommissar X.

Ria Baran was a German pair skater. She skated together with Paul Falk and twice became World champion and in 1952 Olympic champion. She was one of the oldest female figure skating Olympic champions.

Raymond Loewy was a French-born American industrial designer who achieved fame for the magnitude of his design efforts across a variety of industries. He was recognized for this by Time magazine and featured on its cover on October 31, 1949.
