On November 4, 1989, Tsutsumi Sakamoto, a lawyer working on a class action lawsuit against Aum Shinrikyo, a controversial doomsday cult in Japan, was murdered, along with his wife and child, by perpetrators who broke into his apartment. Six years later the murderers were uncovered and it was established that the assassins had been members of Aum Shinrikyo at the time of the crime.

Darryl Floyd Stingley was an American professional football player, a wide receiver whose career was ended at age 26 by an on-field spinal cord injury. He played his entire five-year career with the New England Patriots of the National Football League, and died from heart disease and pneumonia complicated by quadriplegia.

Mark York also known as Marcus A. York was an American actor best known for his role as Billy Merchant in NBC's The Office. He also had roles in CSI: NY, 8 Simple Rules, and A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001).

Ángel Nieves Díaz was a Puerto Rican convict who was executed by lethal injection by the State of Florida. Nieves was convicted of shooting and killing the manager of a strip club in 1979. He maintained his innocence until his death.

Major Lance was an American R&B singer. After a number of US hits in the 1960s, including "The Monkey Time" and "Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um", he became an iconic figure in Britain in the 1970s among followers of Northern Soul. Although he stopped making records in 1982, Major Lance continued to perform at concerts and on tours until his death in 1994. His daughter, Keisha Lance Bottoms, is the current mayor of Atlanta.
