She is known for her work with Victoria Wood, including Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV (1985–1987), the sitcom Dinnerladies (1998–2000) and Acorn Antiques: The Musical, for which she won the 2006 Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical.

He released his first solo album, Lostboy! AKA Jim Kerr, on 27 May 2010. Kerr's voice has been described as "David Bowie's rich baritone melded with Bryan Ferry's velvety croon".

Her brothers are the composing duo Jatin–Lalit and her younger sister is Vijayta Pandit who achieved fame with her debut movie Love Story. Her uncle was the accomplished classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj. She won a Filmfare Best Female Playback Award in 1975 for her song "Tu Hi Sagar Hai, Tu Hi Kinara".

Holt won gold medals in the 100 m and 200 m at the 2015 and 2017 World Para Athletics Championships. At the 2016 Rio Paralympics, she won two silver medals and a bronze medal.
