Quitéria was the first woman to serve in a military unit in Brazil. She, along with Maria Felipa de Oliveira and Sister Joana Angélica (1761-1822), are known as the three Bahian women resistance fighters in the War of Independence against the Portuguese.

He was selected for the Pro Bowl three times and won Super Bowl XLI as a member of the Colts, beating the Chicago Bears.
