Lothar Stäber is a former German cyclist who competed for the SC Dynamo Berlin / Sportvereinigung (SV) Dynamo. He won many titles during his career.

Oskar Sala was a 20th-century German physicist, composer and a pioneer of electronic music born in Greiz. He played an instrument called the Trautonium, a predecessor to the synthesizer.

Karl-Otto Kiepenheuer was a German astronomer and astrophysicist. His research focused on the Sun, and for that purpose he initiated construction of several solar telescopes and founded the Kiepenheuer Institute for Solar Physics.

Hanka Kupfernagel is a German professional cycle racer. Currently her primary focus is cyclocross racing, however, she has won major road, track and mountain bike races. She has won seven consecutive medals at the UCI Women's Cyclo-cross World Championships, including three gold medals for 2000, 2001 and 2005; the silver medal in 2002 and 2003; and the bronze medal in 2004.

Barbara Rinke is a German politician of the Social Democratic Party. She was born in Nordhausen, Thuringia, and was Bürgermeister of that city from 1994 to 2012. From 2003 to 2009, she was the praeses of the synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD).
