Empress Li (960–1004) was an empress consort of ancient China's Northern Song Dynasty, married to Emperor Taizong. After his death, she was the empress dowager for her stepson Emperor Zhenzong.

Huang Qishan is a Chinese recording artist and musician. She is also known as Susan Huang and Huang Ma. She is called by some to be the "no. 1 Female Voice in Asia." Huang Qishan, despite her rare vocal talent and twenty-seven year experiences in the music industry, did not achieve much success in her home country of China until appearing on the show I Am A Singer in early 2013. Huang Qishan's performance caused an Internet sensation that led to her almost-overnight popularity.

Rong Yiren was the Vice President of the People's Republic of China from 1993 to 1998 and was heavily involved with the opening of the Chinese economy to western investment. Rong is known both in China and in the Western world as "the Red Capitalist" because his family were some of the few pre-1949 industrialists to have been treated well by the Communist Party of China in return for their co-operation with the government of the People's Republic of China.

John Leighton Stuart was a missionary educator, the first President of Yenching University and later United States ambassador to China. He was a towering figure in U.S.-Chinese relations in the first half of the 20th century, a man TIME magazine called "perhaps the most respected American in China." According to one Chinese historian, "there was no other American of his ilk in the 20th century, one who was as deeply involved in Chinese politics, culture, and education and had such an incredible influence in China."

Chen Zhen, courtesy name Xiaoqi, was an official of the state of Shu Han in the Three Kingdoms period of China. When Liu Bei became Governor of Jing Province, Chen Zhen was hired to serve as a local officer and was stationed in various commanderies. When Liu Bei entered Yi Province, Chen Zhen remained in his service, where he progressed in rank and soon became Prefect of the Masters of Writing at the capital. When Sun Quan declared himself emperor and established the state of Eastern Wu in 229, Liu Shan sent Chen Zhen to offer his congratulations and to form an alliance, which he did, and they also drew out their respective states' boundaries.

Mao Yichang was a Chinese farmer and grain merchant who achieved notability as the father of Mao Zedong. The nineteenth generation of the Mao clan, he was born and lived his life in the rural village of Shaoshanchong in Shaoshan, Hunan Province.
