A former world No. 1 in singles, she achieved the top ranking for the first time on 11 October 2010, becoming the 20th player in the Open Era, and the first woman from a Scandinavian country to hold the top ranking position. She was the year-end No. 1 in both 2010 and 2011, held the top ranking for a combined total of 71 weeks, and won more than $35 million in prize money.

He played college football at Oklahoma State, where he was a three-year starter and won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award during his last year.
