He was previously the Secretary-General of National Security Council. He was the Chief of the General Staff of the Republic of China Armed Forces from 30 January 2015 until 1 December 2016. He was the Vice Minister for Armaments of the National Defense Ministry (MND) from 9 August 2013 until 15 January 2014.

Yen Chia-kan, also known as C. K. Yen, was a Kuomintang politician. He succeeded Chiang Kai-shek as President of the Republic of China on 5 April 1975, being sworn in on 6 April 1975, and served out the remainder of Chiang's term until 20 May 1978.

Yen Hsing-su, also known as Johnny Yen, is a Taiwanese basketball coach and former basketball player, singer and actor. Since 2017 he has been the assistant coach of the Chinese Taipei men's national basketball team. From 2015 to 2017 he coached the Fubon Braves in Taiwan's Super Basketball League.
