He was one of the co-founders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and a member of the Polit Bureau of the party since its inception in 1964 till 2008. He was noted to have been the longest serving chief minister in an elected democracy, at the time of his resignation.

Sir Norman Joseph Wisdom, was an English actor, comedian and singer-songwriter best known for a series of comedy films produced between 1953 and 1966 featuring his hapless onscreen character that was often called Norman Pitkin.
