John McCarthy was an American computer scientist and cognitive scientist. McCarthy was one of the founders of the discipline of artificial intelligence. He co-authored the document that coined the term "artificial intelligence" (AI), developed the Lisp programming language family, significantly influenced the design of the ALGOL programming language, popularized time-sharing, invented garbage collection, and was very influential in the early development of AI.

Hassib Ben Ammar (Arabic: حسيب بن عمار‎) was a leading Tunisian politician and journalist/editor. He was a powerful campaigner for human rights.

Chen Zaidao was a Chinese general in the People's Liberation Army, who commanded the Wuhan Military Region from 1954 to 1967. He is most noted for having arrested pro-Mao Xie Fuzhi and Wang Li during the Wuhan Incident in July 1967. He was promptly dismissed after the incident, but was rehabilitated in 1972 and entered the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1978.

Edward Johnston Alexander was an American botanist who discovered three species and one genus, but only named one of them, although he is the author or one of the authors of 205 entries in the International Plant Names Index. He was born in Asheville, North Carolina and studied at North Carolina State University from 1919 to 1923, though he failed to graduate. He was a longtime assistant and curator at New York Botanical Garden, originally under the guidance of John Kunkel Small. While at the Botanic Garden, he served as an editor of the Garden's botanical journal Addisonia for about thirty years, until the journal ceased publication in 1964.

Chen Xuezhao was a Chinese writer and journalist. She was earlier known as Chen Shuzhang or Chen Shuying. She used the pen names Ye Qu, Shi Wei, Xue Zhao and Hui. She was one of the most prolific Chinese women writers of the 20th century. Chen gave her support to Mao Zedong's policy on Art and Literature.
