He was a frequent collaborator of producer-director Stanley Kramer, working with him on virtually all of the films that Kramer directed, and many famous ones that he only produced, such as High Noon, Cyrano de Bergerac, and The Men.

He previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Twins, Toronto Blue Jays, and Seattle Mariners, as well as in the KBO League for the Hanwha Eagles and for the Orix Buffaloes of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). Prior to beginning his professional career, he played college baseball at the University of Kentucky. Albers has also competed for the Canadian national baseball team. Albers also has a career batting average of 1000 through 3 plate appearances
