Ivor Goldsmid Samuel Montagu was an English filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, film critic, writer, table tennis player, and Communist activist in the 1930s. He helped to develop a lively intellectual film culture in Britain during the interwar years, and was also the founder of the International Table Tennis Federation.

Charles Louis de Frédy, Baron de Coubertin (1822–1908) was a French aristocrat and painter. He married a woman from Normandy, Agathe Marie Marcelle Gigault de Crisenoy, with whom he had four children. He was the father of Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympic Games. He has been called "a mediocre if fashionable academic painter", and a "somewhat gifted painter of religious and historical subjects". In 1865 he received the Légion d'Honneur for his artistic work.

Marie Taglioni, Comtesse de Voisins was an Italian ballet dancer of the Romantic ballet era, a central figure in the history of European dance. She was one of the most celebrated ballerinas of the romantic ballet, which was cultivated primarily at Her Majesty's Theatre in London and at the Théâtre de l'Académie Royale de Musique of the Paris Opera Ballet. She is credited with being the first ballerina to truly dance en pointe.

Antoinette Corisande Élisabeth, Duchess of Clermont-Tonnerre was a French writer of the early 20th century, best known for her long-term lesbian relationship with Natalie Clifford Barney, an American writer. Élisabeth de Gramont had grown up among the highest aristocracy; when she was a child, according to Janet Flanner, "peasants on her farm... begged her not to clean her shoes before entering their houses". She looked back on this lost world of wealth and privilege with little regret, and became known as the "red duchess" for her support of socialism and feminism.
