Germaine Alice Coty was the daughter of a Normandy ship owner who became the wife of the French lawyer-politician René Coty. When she died, slightly less than 22 months after her husband became president of France, she became the first wife of a French president to die while her husband was still in office. By that time she had become popular with the French public "for her simplicity and kindness: hostile commentators who had mocked her when she moved into the presidential "Élysée Palace" quickly ceased their mockery in response to vehement public protests".

Germaine Berton was a French anarchist and trade unionist. She is known for the murder of Marius Plateau, an editor for the Action Francaise journal and a leader in the royalist organisation Camelots du Roi in January 1923. Germaine Berton was defended by Henri Torrès during her trial and surrealists have used her mugshot in a number of art pieces. Despite confessing, Berton was acquitted on 24 December, 1923.

François Labourie is a French mathematician who has made various contributions to geometry, including pseudoholomorphic curves, Anosov diffeomorphism, and convex geometry. In a series of papers with Yves Benoist and Patrick Foulon, he solved a conjecture on Anosov's flows in compact contact manifolds.
