Chan School of Public Health where he is also the chair of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences. With S.V. Subramanian, he is the co-editor-in-chief of Social Science & Medicine. In 2018, Kawachi was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand.
