Ali Yata was a Moroccan communist leader. He was born in Tangier on 25 August 1920. Yata took part in the foundation of the Moroccan Communist Party (PCM) in 1943. After a few years he became the general secretary of the party, replacing the founding general secretary Léon Sultan who died in 1945.

He played hero roles from 1940–47, a villain from 1942–1991, and played supporting and character roles from 1948–2007. He is the original badman of Indian cinema. Such was the intensity of his negative performances on the screen that people stopped naming their children "Pran", when Pran was at the peak of his villainy. He has been one among the most highly successful actors in the history of Indian cinema.
