Helenio Herrera Gavilán was an Argentine, naturalized French, football player and manager. He is best remembered for his success with the Inter Milan team known as Grande Inter in the 1960s.

Irene Wosikowski was a German political activist (KPD). After 1933 she continued with her political activity in Germany till 1935. The next two years were spent in Moscow after which, as instructed by the party, she moved to Paris which had become one of two de facto capitals for the exiled German Communist Party. She worked on political education and publishing till 1940 when she was placed in the Gurs internment camp. After her escape she joined the Résistance. Living "underground" (unregistered) she managed to remain at liberty till July 1943, despite the intensely dangerous nature of much of her resistance work, which included approaching German soldiers and engaging in "political" discussions to try and persuade them to face up to the accelerating savagery of the Shoah. Following her arrest Wosikowski was subjected to a sustained programme of torture and taken back to Germany where she was executed at Plötzensee on the edge of Berlin.

Daniel Tinayre was a French-born Argentine film director, screenwriter and film producer.

Füreya Koral is one of the pioneering ceramics artists in Turkey. Known for her wall panels, Koral worked in a variety of media such as tiles, statuettes, plates, and also created household items. She started working on ceramics after she was diagnosed with tuberculosis, while receiving treatment at a sanatorium in Switzerland. She was a self-taught artist and her works were mostly ignored during her lifetime. Seeking to push the limits of ceramics beyond its function, she was inspired by the art of ancient civilizations of Turkey, Mexico and East Asia—Japan in particular. Her work is commonly known to carry a mix of Western and Eastern artistic elements.

Hidekichi Miyazaki was a Japanese centenarian masters athlete in sprinting, affectionally nicknamed Golden Bolt, a name play on former Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt. He was a former official holder of the world record in the M100 100 metres.

Kurt Meyer was an SS commander and war criminal of Nazi Germany. He served in the Waffen-SS and participated in the Battle of France, Operation Barbarossa, and other engagements during World War II. Meyer commanded the 12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend during the Allied invasion of Normandy, and was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords.

Ángel Sanz Briz was a Spanish diplomat who served under Francoist Spain during World War II. He saved the lives of some five thousand Hungarian Jews from deportation to Auschwitz. Sanz Briz is sometimes referred to as "the angel of Budapest".

Behice Boran was a Turkish Marxist politician, author and sociologist. As a dissenting political voice from the left, Boran was repeatedly imprisoned for her work and died in exile after the Turkish military coup of 1980.

Felix Landau, was a SS Hauptscharführer, a member of an Einsatzkommando during World War II, based first in Lwów, Poland, and later in Drohobycz. He was a "central figure in the Nazi program of the extermination of Galician Jews". He is known for his daily diary and for temporarily sparing the life of the Jewish/Polish artist Bruno Schulz in 1942. Landau liked Schulz's art and supplied him with protection and extra food. In return, he ordered the artist to paint a set of murals for his young son's bedroom, depicting scenes from the Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Landau also was the SS officer assigned to watch over Maria Altmann, the subject of the film Woman in Gold (2015).
