John David Logan is an American playwright, screenwriter, film producer, and television producer. He is a three-time Academy Award nominee; twice for Best Original Screenplay for Gladiator (2000) and The Aviator (2004) and once for Best Adapted Screenplay for Hugo (2011).
John C. Brown
John Calvin Brown was an American politician, soldier and businessman. He served as Governor of Tennessee from 1871 to 1875, and was president of the state's 1870 constitutional convention, which wrote the current Tennessee State Constitution. Although he originally opposed secession, Brown fought for the Confederacy during the American Civil War, eventually rising to the rank of major-general.
John Churchill
Sir John Churchill (1585–1673) was an English lawyer and politician of the 17th century. His practice enjoyed great success during the 1630s and he was a member of the Middle Temple and Deputy Registrar of Chancery. He bought an estate at Newton Montacute near Sherborne in Dorset. During the English Civil War he supported Charles I and his son Sir Winston served as a Cavalier in the King's army while John, too old for military service, served Charles in a civil capacity. However following the Battle of Naseby he withdrew his support for the King, sometime before the final Siege of Oxford. Nonetheless the victorious Parliamentarians imposed fines of £840 on him, but he was permitted to keep his property.
John Field
John Field was an Irish pianist, composer, and teacher widely credited as the inventor of the nocturne. While other composers were writing in a similar style at this time, Field was the first to use the term 'Nocturne' specifically to apply to a character piece featuring a cantabile melody over an arpeggiated accompaniment.
