Charles Redheffer was an American inventor who claimed to have invented a perpetual motion machine. First appearing in Philadelphia, Redheffer exhibited his machine to the public, charging high prices for viewing. When he applied to the government for more money, a group of inspectors were sent to examine the machine. It was discovered the machine was actually powered by a device Redheffer claimed was powered by the machine.

Charles Bradlaugh was an English political activist and atheist. He founded the National Secular Society in 1866.

Charles Franklin Kettering sometimes known as Charles "Boss" Kettering was an American inventor, engineer, businessman, and the holder of 186 patents. He was a founder of Delco, and was head of research at General Motors from 1920 to 1947. Among his most widely used automotive developments were the electrical starting motor and leaded gasoline. In association with the DuPont Chemical Company, he was also responsible for the invention of Freon refrigerant for refrigeration and air conditioning systems. At DuPont he also was responsible for the development of Duco lacquers and enamels, the first practical colored paints for mass-produced automobiles. While working with the Dayton-Wright Company he developed the "Bug" aerial torpedo, considered the world's first aerial missile. He led the advancement of practical, lightweight two-stroke diesel engines, revolutionizing the locomotive and heavy equipment industries. In 1927, he founded the Kettering Foundation, a non-partisan research foundation. He was featured on the cover of Time magazine on January 9, 1933.

After winning the European Broadcasting Union conducting competition in 1995 whilst still in his twenties, Hazlewood has had a career as an international conductor, music director of film and theatre, composer and a curator of music on British radio and television, and founder of Paraorchestra - the world's first integrated ensemble of disabled and non-disabled musicians.

Charles John Horter is an American competitive sailor and Olympic medalist, who competed in the 1968, 1972, 1976 and 1980 Olympic Trials. He won a bronze medal in the Dragon class at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, together with Donald Cohan and John Marshall. A former captain of the Drexel University sailing team, Horter is also a past commodore of both the Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia and the Island Heights Yacht Club. While competing in various Olympic Trials, Horter served in the First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry, America's first and oldest volunteer cavalry unit. Horter has been inducted into both the Drexel University Athletic Hall of Fame and the Barnegat Bay Sailing Hall of Fame. Horter has three sons and currently resides in Philadelphia with his wife, Tricia.
