He was the first cousin of President George H. W. Bush, and first cousin once removed of President George W. Bush and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.

Augusto Itúrburu Carabajo was an Ecuadorian teacher and sports journalist, known to his colleagues with the surname Tururú; he worked for the newspaper El Telégrafo.
