Paolo Soleri was an Italian architect. He established the educational Cosanti Foundation and Arcosanti. Soleri was a lecturer in the College of Architecture at Arizona State University and a National Design Award recipient in 2006. He coined the concept of 'arcology' – a synthesis of architecture and ecology as the philosophy of democratic society. He died at home of natural causes on 9 April 2013 at the age of 93.

Margot Wölk was a German secretary who was among 15 young women who, in 1942, were selected to taste German leader Adolf Hitler's food at the Wolf's Lair in East Prussia for two-and-a-half years to confirm that it was safe. She was the only one of the 15 to survive World War II, and her background as Hitler's food taster was not revealed until a newspaper interview on her 95th birthday in December 2012.

Hakem al-Fayez was a Jordanian political activist. He was a member of the Jordanian and Syrian Branch of the Ba'ath Party. He was jailed in Syria for 23 years after Hafez al-Assad took over power in a coup d'état.

Gylmar dos Santos Neves, known simply as Gilmar, was a Brazilian footballer who played goalkeeper for Corinthians and Santos and was a member of the Brazil national team in three World Cups. He was elected the best Brazilian goalkeeper of the 20th century and one of the best in the world by the IFFHS. He is remembered for his sober style on the pitch and his peaceful personality.

General Sir James Michael Gow, was a senior British Army officer who served in the Second World War and reached high office in the 1980s, commanding the British Army of the Rhine.

Robert "Robin" Leigh-Pemberton, Baron Kingsdown, was a British Peer and banker, who served as Governor of the Bank of England from 1983 to 1993.

Claude Nobs was the founder and general manager of the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Sir John Dennis Boles, was a British Colonial Service officer in North Borneo, and later in England worked for the National Trust, serving as its Director-General from 1975 to 1983.

Ramon Dekkers was a Dutch kickboxer and an eight-time Muay Thai world champion. Dekkers was a favourite with fight fans due to his fast-paced, aggressive fighting style. Dekkers was also renowned for his willingness to go abroad to fight the Thai champions in their own country.

Soh Hang-suen, , was a Hong Kong actress. Soh worked for TVB during its Golden Age, joining in 1974, and was most notable for her role in Looking Back in Anger. Soh ran her own vegetarian restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui. She died on 12 June 2013, after complications arising from a stroke.
