Viktor Petrovich Astafyev also spelled Astafiev or Astaf'ev, was a Soviet and Russian writer, playwright and screenwriter. Hero of Socialist Labour (1989).

John Edmund Andrew Phillips was an American singer, guitarist, songwriter, and promoter. He was the leader of the vocal group the Mamas and the Papas, and was one of the chief organizers of the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival.

Mirza Delibašić was a Bosnian professional basketball player and coach.

Anthony Joseph Giacalone, also known as Tony Jack, was a Sicilian-American organized crime figure in Detroit, serving as a capo in the Detroit Partnership and later a street boss. He came to public notice during the 1970s investigations into the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa, as he was one of two Mafia members – the other being Anthony Provenzano – that Hoffa had arranged to meet on the day he disappeared. In 1976, Giacalone was sentenced to 10 years in prison for tax evasion. He died of natural causes on February 23, 2001.

David Lawrence Angell was an American screenwriter and television producer. Angell won multiple Emmy Awards as the creator and executive producer, along with Peter Casey and David Lee, of the sitcoms Wings and Frasier. Angell and his wife Lynn both died heading home from their vacation on Cape Cod aboard American Airlines Flight 11, the first plane to hit the World Trade Center during the September 11 attacks.

Michael Iver Peterson is an American novelist who was convicted in 2003 of murdering his second wife, Kathleen Peterson, on December 9, 2001. After eight years, Peterson was granted a new trial after the judge ruled a critical prosecution witness gave misleading testimony. In 2017, Peterson submitted an Alford plea to the reduced charge of manslaughter. He was sentenced to time already served and freed.

Michele Alboreto was an Italian racing driver. He was runner up to Alain Prost in the 1985 Formula One World Championship, as well as winning the 1997 24 Hours of Le Mans and 2001 12 Hours of Sebring sports car races. Alboreto competed in Formula One from 1981 until 1994, racing for a number of teams, including five seasons (1984–88) for Ferrari.

Keith Alexander Glascoe was an American actor, firefighter, and a member of the NY Jets practice squad. He was a Firefighter with Ladder 21 of the New York City Fire Department killed in the September 11 attacks.

Juan Emilio Bosch Gaviño was a Dominican politician, historian, writer, essayist, educator, and the first democratically elected president of the Dominican Republic for a brief time in 1963. Previously, he had been the leader of the Dominican opposition in exile to the dictatorial regime of Rafael Trujillo for over 25 years. To this day he is remembered as an honest politician and regarded as one of the most prominent writers in Dominican literature. He founded both the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) in 1939 and the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) in 1973.
