George Jay Gould I was a financier and the son of Jay Gould. He was himself a railroad executive, leading the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad (DRGW), Western Pacific Railroad (WP), and Manhattan Railway.

Jaroslav Hašek was a Czech writer, humorist, satirist, journalist, bohemian and anarchist. He is best known for his novel The Fate of the Good Soldier Švejk during the World War, an unfinished collection of farcical incidents about a soldier in World War I and a satire on the ineptitude of authority figures. The novel has been translated into about 60 languages, making it the most translated novel in Czech literature.

Édouard Jean-Marie Stephan was a French astronomer. His surname is sometimes spelled Stéphan in some literature, but this is apparently erroneous.

Gustave Bloch was a French Jewish historian of ancient history. He was the father of historian Marc Bloch (1886–1944), who along with Lucien Febvre (1878–1956) was co-founder of the École des Annales.

Princess Louise Marie Elisabeth of Prussia was Grand Duchess of Baden from 1856 to 1907 as the wife of Grand Duke Frederick I. Princess Louise was the second child and only daughter of Wilhelm I, German Emperor, and Augusta of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach. She was the younger sister of German Emperor Frederick III ("Fritz") and aunt of Emperor Wilhelm II. Louise was seven years younger than Frederick and two years older than his wife, Victoria, Princess Royal.

Alfred Ormond Edwards was an English businessman and football pioneer. In 1899, he was one of the founding fathers and first chairman of Italian football club A.C. Milan under the original name of Milan Foot-Ball and Cricket Club.
