Charles Phelps Taft II
Charles Phelps Taft II was a U.S. Republican Party politician and member of the Taft family. From 1955 to 1957, he served as Mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio. Like other members of his family, Taft was a Republican for the purposes of statewide elections. However, when running for municipal office in Cincinnati, Taft was a member of the Charter Party. During his term as mayor, Fortune magazine ranked Cincinnati as the best managed big city in the United States. As mayor, he gained the nickname "Mr. Cincinnati". He married Eleanor Chase in 1917, They had 6 children, Eleanor Kelllogg Hall (Taft), Sylvia Howard Lotspeich (Taft) ,Seth Taft, Lucia Chase Taft, Cynthia Herron Taft Manning, and Rosalyn Rawson Taft.

Ferdinand Victor Henri Lot was a French historian and medievalist. His masterpiece, The End of the Ancient World and the Beginnings of the Middle Ages (1927), presents an alternative and possibly more objective account of the fall of the Roman Empire than does Edward Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, which set the tone for Enlightenment scholarship blaming the fall of classical civilization on Christianity.
