He was the second son of Count Leopold Carl Joseph of Windish-Graetz (1718-1746) and his wife Countess Maria Antonia Josepha von Khevenhüller (1726-1746).

She went on to have a high-profile celebrity career as a socialite and interior designer, and co-starred in a Hollywood Tarzan movie --- Tarzan's Revenge. She appeared in that film with Glenn Morris, another Olympian.
