He is from Sakaigawa stable, which had four other wrestlers with top division experience for much of the time he was in makuuchi: Myōgiryū, Sadanofuji, Sadanoumi and Gōeidō, the last of whom joined at the same time as him. With the May 2014 promotion of Yoshikaze to komusubi he is now has the most tournaments ranked in makuuchi among active wrestlers without reaching san'yaku. His ring name roughly translates as "abundant echo".
