Elisha Peyre Ferry was the first Governor of the U.S. State of Washington. Ferry was a Republican lawyer who had twice been Governor of Washington Territory, the only one to serve two terms. On Washington's admission as a state on November 11, 1889, he became its inaugural governor, serving one term, stepping down in 1893 because of failing health.

Stephanie Gray Chang is a Democratic politician from Michigan representing the 1st district of the Michigan Senate. She previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives in the 6th District, in the Michigan House of Representatives after being elected in November 2014. She is the first Asian American woman to serve in the Michigan Legislature. She was the first woman to give birth while serving as a Michigan State Senator.

Robert Elmer Horton was an American civil engineer and soil scientist, considered by many to be the father of modern hydrology.

Martin A. Ryerson (1856–1932) was an American, lawyer, businessman, philanthropist and art collector. Heir to a considerable fortune, he was a lumber manufacturer and corporate director. He became the richest man in Chicago by the age of 36. A long-time trustee of the University of Chicago, he made large charitable contributions for the construction of buildings on campus. He bequeathed his extensive art collection to the Art Institute of Chicago.
