Alan Sillitoe was an English writer and one of the so-called "angry young men" of the 1950s. He disliked the label, as did most of the other writers to whom it was applied. He is best known for his debut novel Saturday Night and Sunday Morning and his early short story "The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner", both of which were adapted into films.

Sir David Kwok-po Li GBM GBS OBE JP is a British-Hong Kong banker and politician. He is the current Executive Chairman of the Bank of East Asia, and a former member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong and the Executive Council of Hong Kong.

Sir Gawaine George Hope Baillie, 7th Baronet was a British amateur motor racing driver, engineer, industrialist, stamp collector, and the owner of the estate surrounding Leeds Castle, the ancient fortress in Kent. The castle itself was bequeathed to the nation upon his mother's death in 1974. After his death, it was discovered that he had amassed, almost entirely in secret, one of the greatest collections of stamps of the former British Empire.

Edgar Gerhard Julius Oscar Ludwig von Westphalen was a German writer, Communist politician and long time friend and the brother-in-law of Karl Marx. He was the son of Prussian baron Ludwig von Westphalen and his second wife Caroline Heubel. Heubel was also the mother of Jenny who married Karl Marx. Edgar had a half-brother Ferdinand from his father's first marriage. The Westphalen and Marx families were neighbors in Trier, with Karl and Edgar being friends and schoolmates.

Édith Lucie Bongo Ondimba was the First Lady of Gabon as the wife of President Omar Bongo from 1989 to 2009.
