He is also credited as the only boxer to stop Danny Jacobs, dealing Jacobs his first professional defeat and effectively ending his 20–0 winning streak. Being the only Russian boxer ever to hold the WBO Middleweight Championship, he never made it to the quarterfinals of the Russian national amateur boxing championships.
