List of Famous people born in Iraq

Jawad Ali (1907–1987) was an Iraqi historian and academic specializing in Islamic and Arabic history. He received his doctorate from Hamburg University in 1939 and is known for his book The history of the Arabs before Islam which became one of most referenced works on the history of Arabs before Islam. Jawad Ali worked in the Department of History at the Faculty of Education at the University of Baghdad beginning in the 1950s.

Sayyid Muhammad Sa'id Al-Habboubi was an Iraqi Poet, Faqīh, and a merchant, born in Najaf to a wealthy family.

Al-Muqtafi was the Abbasid caliph in Baghdad from 1136 to 1160, succeeding his nephew al-Rashid, who had been forced to abdicate by the Seljuks. The continued disunion and contests between Seljuk Turks afforded al-Muqtafi opportunity of not only maintaining his authority in Baghdad, but also extending it throughout Iraq.

Al-Musta'sim Billah was the 37th and last caliph of the Abbasid Caliphate; he ruled from 1242 until his death in 1258.
