Maria Eugénia Varela Gomes
Maria Eugénia Varela Gomes (1925-2016) was a campaigner against the authoritarian Estado Novo government in Portugal in the 20th century. She was twice held in prison. Her work with the poor and to assist political prisoners led to her becoming known as “mother courage”.
René Moawad
René Moawad was a Lebanese politician who was elected as the 13th President of the Lebanese Republic for 18 days in 1989, from the 5th to 22 November; before his assassination by unknown assailants.

John Baptist Wu Cheng-chung was the fifth Roman Catholic bishop of Hong Kong and the first cardinal from that diocese. He was a member of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, the Pontifical Council for Social Communications and the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.
Lu Yu-wen
Lu Yu-wen was a Taiwanese politician. He served as Minister of Justice from 1989 to 1993. Lu was later named Vice President of the Judicial Yuan, serving from 1993 to 1998. He died in 1999 due to lung cancer. He is survived by a son and three daughters, all born to his first wife, who had died in 1994.
