Michael Lally was an Irish stage, film and television actor. He departed from a teaching career for acting during the 1970s. Though best known in Ireland for his role as Miley in the television soap Glenroe, Lally's stage career spanned several decades, and he was involved in feature films such as Alexander and the Academy Award-nominated The Secret of Kells. He died in August 2010 after a battle with emphysema. Many reports cited him as one of Ireland's finest and most recognisable actors.

Rudolf F. Ahlswede was a German mathematician. Born in Dielmissen, Germany, he studied mathematics, physics, and philosophy. He wrote his Ph.D. thesis in 1966, at the University of Göttingen, with the topic "Contributions to the Shannon information theory in case of non-stationary channels". He dedicated himself in his further career to information theory and became one of the leading representatives of this area worldwide.

Donald Edgar "Buz" Lukens was a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from Ohio. His political career ended in 1990 when he was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Six years later, he was convicted for accepting a bribe during his time in Congress.

Michalis Papakonstantinou was a Greek politician and author. He studied law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Papakonstantinou served as the Minister for Foreign Affairs from August 7, 1992, until October 13, 1993, as a member of the New Democracy Party.

David Donald Kpormakpor was a Liberian politician and the first Chairman of the Council of State that ruled Liberia from 7 March 1994 until 1 September 1995 during the height of the First Liberian Civil War.

Fábio Silva Pillar is a Brazilian sailor who competes in the two-person dinghy (470) class. He was a member of the Brazilian sailing team at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, finishing seventeenth along with his partner Samuel Albrecht in the 470 regatta. Throughout his sailing career, Pillar trains full-time at Clube dos Jangadeiros in his native Pôrto Alegre under the tutelage of head coach Paulo Ribeiro.

Denis Guedj was a French novelist and a professor of the History of Science at Paris VIII University. He was born in Setif. He spent many years devising courses and games to teach adults and children math. He is the author of Numbers: The Universal Language and of the novel The Parrot's Theorem. He died in Paris.

Jeng Kirchen was a Luxembourgish road racing cyclist who twice finished 5th in the Tour de France. Kirchen won his native race, the Tour de Luxembourg, in 1952, and took a total of 16 professional wins. He was the uncle and great-uncle of fellow cyclists Erny Kirchen and Kim Kirchen.
