Mohammed Seddik Benyahia or Ben Yahia was an Algerian politician and a militant nationalist during the war in Algeria. After independence he was Minister of Information (1967–1971), Higher Education (1971–1977), Finance (1977–1979), and Foreign Affairs (1979–1982).

Ahmad Hasan al-Khatib (1933–1982) was a Syrian politician. He was a ceremonial head of state of Syria, appointed by Hafez al-Assad to replace the ousted president Nureddin al-Atassi. Ahmad al-Khatib was a civilian member of the ruling Ba'ath party and served as president for only four months. His position was subsequently filled by Assad. He then became the speaker of the Syrian parliament. He died in Damascus, Syria in 1982. He had many siblings, one of them was Najwa al-Khatib, the wife of Abdulmajid Mansour, a very important doctor in the Syrian army who died in 2007.

Artin Penik was a Turkish-Armenian who committed suicide by self-immolation in protest of the Esenboga airport attack by the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia on August 10, 1982.

Mehmet Ali Has was a Turkish footballer who played as a forward and was best known for his stints at Fenerbahçe and Beykoz in the Turkish Süper Lig. He was nicknamed Tarzan Mehmet Ali because of his long hair.
