Jerry Gustave Hasford, also known under his pen name Gustav Hasford was an American novelist, journalist and poet. His semi-autobiographical novel The Short-Timers (1979) was the basis of the film Full Metal Jacket (1987). He was a United States Marine Corps veteran, who served during the Vietnam War.

Michael Daniel Ambatchew (1967-2012) was an Ethiopian children's book writer. He has written Sidama Tales and Alemayehu. Although an admirer of Western stories like Puss in Boots, he has been active in improving the publishing of a more native Ethiopian children's literature, and has also written on literature in general.

Ron Vawter was an American actor and a founding member of the experimental theater company The Wooster Group. Vawter performed in most of the group's works until his death from a heart attack in 1994 at the age of 45.
