Ottavio Piccolomini was an Italian nobleman whose military career included service as a Spanish general and then as a field marshal of the Holy Roman Empire.

Jukums Vācietis was a Latvian Soviet military commander. He was a rare example of a notable Soviet leader who was not a member of the Communist Party, until his demise during the Great Purge in the 1930s.

Keiko Tanaka-Ikeda is the first Japanese female gymnast to win a world title, which she accomplished on the balance beam in 1954. For 63 years, she remained the only Japanese female gymnast who won a world gold medal - until Mai Murakami won the floor exercise at the 2017 World Championships. Tanaka-Ikeda won seven more medals at the world championships in 1958–1966. She also competed at the 1956, 1960 and 1964 Olympics in all artistic gymnastics events and won a team bronze medal in 1964; her best individual achievement was a fourth place on the floor in 1956.

George Carr Frison was an American archaeologist. He received the Society for American Archaeology's Lifetime Achievement Award, the Paleoarchaeologist of the Century Award, and was elected to the National Academy of Sciences. He was Wyoming’s first State Archaeologist, and was a founder of the University of Wyoming Anthropology Department. He died in September 2020 at the age of 95.
