Paul Ian Biran is an Israeli mathematician. He holds a chair at the ETH Zurich. His research interests include symplectic geometry and algebraic geometry.

Ştefăniţă Lupu, nicknamed Papură-Vodă, son of Vasile Lupu, was Voivode (Prince) of Moldavia between 1659 and 1661, and again in 1661.

Oana Dariana Pellea is a Romanian actress, the daughter of actor Amza Pellea.

György Miklós Jakubinyi is a Romanian cleric, the former archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Alba Iulia. Born into an ethnic Hungarian family in Sighetu Marmației, he attended school in his native town from 1952 to 1963 before beginning his religious training that year at the Roman Catholic Theological Institute of Alba Iulia. Ordained a priest in 1969 by Áron Márton, he was consecrated auxiliary bishop at Șumuleu Ciuc in 1990. The following year, he became administrator of the Ordinariate for Catholics of Armenian Rite in Romania. He was made archbishop in 1994, and retired in 2019.

Réka Albert is a Romanian-Hungarian scientist. She is a distinguished professor of physics and adjunct professor of biology at Pennsylvania State University and is noted for the Barabási–Albert model and research into scale-free networks and Boolean modeling of biological systems.

Alexandru Todea was a Romanian Greek-Catholic bishop of the Alba Iulia Diocese and later cardinal. He was also a victim of the communist regime, suffering at Jilava, Sighet, and Pitești prisons.
