Arthur Holly Compton was an American physicist who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1927 for his 1923 discovery of the Compton effect, which demonstrated the particle nature of electromagnetic radiation. It was a sensational discovery at the time: the wave nature of light had been well-demonstrated, but the idea that light had both wave and particle properties was not easily accepted. He is also known for his leadership over the Metallurgical Laboratory at the University of Chicago during the Manhattan Project, and served as Chancellor of Washington University in St. Louis from 1945 to 1953.

Alice Pike Barney was an American painter. She was active in Washington, D.C. and worked to make Washington into a center of the arts. Her two daughters were the writer and salon hostess Natalie Clifford Barney and the Baháʼí writer Laura Clifford Barney.

Charles Eli Guggenheim was an American documentary film director, producer, and screenwriter. He was the most honored documentary filmmaker in the Academy history, winning four Oscars from twelve nominations.

Harvey Lawrence Pekar was an American underground comic book writer, music critic, and media personality, best known for his autobiographical American Splendor comic series. In 2003, the series inspired a well-received film adaptation of the same name.

Corey Allen was an American film and television director, writer, producer, and actor. He began his career as an actor but eventually became a television director. He may be best known for playing the character Buzz Gunderson in Nicholas Ray's Rebel Without a Cause (1955).

James Middleton Cox was the 46th and 48th Governor of Ohio, a two-term U.S. Representative from Ohio, and the Democratic nominee for President of the United States at the 1920 presidential election. His running mate during his presidential campaign was future president Franklin D. Roosevelt. He founded the chain of newspapers that continues today as Cox Enterprises, a media conglomerate.

Lewis Miller was an American businessman and philanthropist who made a fortune in the late 19th century as inventor of the first combine with the blade mounted efficiently in front of the driver, to the side of the horse(s), rather than pulled behind. His daughter Mina (1865–1947) married fellow Ohio inventor Thomas Alva Edison on February 24, 1886.

Dale Stetina was a United States national team cyclist in the late 1970s through the 1980s. He is a two-time U.S. National Road Champion and two-time winner of one of America's greatest bicycle races, the Coors Classic of Boulder, Colorado. He also won the Mt. Washington Bicycle Grand Prix.

Jack Avon Harbaugh is a former American football player and coach. He is known for being the longtime head coach at Western Kentucky. He is also the father of the first pair of brothers to serve as head coaches in the National Football League (NFL) and the first pair of head coaching brothers to face off in a Super Bowl: John and Jim Harbaugh.
