Mary Teresa Barra is an American businesswoman who has been the chairman and CEO of General Motors Company since January 15, 2014. She is the first female CEO of a major automaker. On December 10, 2013, GM named her to succeed Dan Akerson as chief executive officer. Prior to being named CEO, Barra served as the executive vice president of Global Product Development, Purchasing, and Supply Chain at General Motors.

Aiyana Mo'Nay Stanley-Jones
Aiyana Mo'Nay Stanley-Jones, was a seven-year-old African-American girl from Detroit's East Side who was shot in the head and killed by police officer Joseph Weekley during a raid conducted by the Detroit Police Department's Special Response Team targeting a suspect in the apartment a floor above Jones' on May 16, 2010. Her death drew national media attention and led U.S. Representative John Conyers to ask U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder for a federal investigation into the incident.
