At the 2008 Summer Olympics he won a bronze medal in the −81 kg category. At the 2012 Olympic Games, he lost the bronze medal match to Ilias Iliadis in the −90 kg weight division.

Oleksandr Volodymyrovych Abramenko is a Ukrainian Olympic gold medalist freestyle skier, specializing in aerials. He is the 2015–16 Aerials World Cup winner. He competed at the 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics, winning the Olympic gold medal in the men's aerials event at Pyeongchang. Abramenko is also 2019 World Championships silver medalist.
