Hossein Vafaei
Hossein Vafaei is an Iranian professional snooker player. He was the first Iranian professional snooker player in the history of the game. His attempts to travel to the United Kingdom to qualify for the major tournaments on the snooker calendar were denied due to visa problems, but he gained a UK visa in February 2015.
Abu Nuwas
Abū Nuwās al-Ḥasan ibn Hānī al-Ḥakamī was a classical Arabic poet. Born in the city of Ahvaz, in modern-day Iran, to an Arab father and a Persian mother, he became a master of all the contemporary genres of Arabic poetry. He also entered the folkloric tradition, appearing several times in One Thousand and One Nights. He died during the Great Abbasid Civil War before al-Ma’mūn advanced from Khurāsān in either 199 or 200 AH.
Mehran Karimi Nasseri
Mehran Karimi Nasseri, also known as Sir Alfred Mehran, is an Iranian refugee who lived in the departure lounge of Terminal One in Charles de Gaulle Airport from 26 August 1988 until July 2006, when he was hospitalized. His autobiography was published as a book, The Terminal Man, in 2004.
Hamed Haddadi
Hamed Haddadi is an Iranian professional basketball player for Sichuan Blue Whales of the Chinese Basketball Association. He plays at the center position and is 7'2" tall and weighs 280 lbs. Haddadi was the first Iranian to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA) when he debuted with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2008. He'd also continue playing with the Grizzlies there until 2013, where he'd get traded to first the Toronto Raptors and then the Phoenix Suns before returning to Iran and then play in China soon afterwards in the next months.
