Ambassador Moushira Mahmoud Khattab is an Egyptian politician and diplomat born in 1944. She is the former Minister of Family & Population of Egypt, Former Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador of Egypt to South Africa, the Czech Republic and Slovakia as well serving in Egypt’s diplomatic missions in Australia, Hungary, Austria and the United Nations in New York and Vienna. She is also a human rights activist advocating the rights of children and women and the former Vice Chair and Rapporteur of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child based at the UN Headquarters in Geneva. On 19 July 2016, the Prime Minister of Egypt announced that Moushira Khattab will be Egypt's candidate for the post of UNESCO Director-General at the elections due to be held in 2017.

Souad Al-Shammari, also transcribed as Souad Al-Shammary, and Suad Al-Shammari is a Saudi Arabian women's rights activist. She is well known for her opposition to Saudi Arabia's guardianship system which subordinates women's autonomy to the authority of male guardians. She has taken part in campaigns to lift the ban on women driving cars in Saudi Arabia. She is also the head of the Saudi Arabian Liberals Network, which is a network of activists peacefully calling for social and political reform and was associated with the activism of blogger and journalist Raif Badawi, co-founding the Saudi Liberal Network, and helped his wife Ensaf Haidar and their three children leave the country to avoid Raif's father claiming custody of them due to Raif's arrest.

Rui Tavares is a Portuguese politician and former Member of the European Parliament. He was elected in 2009 for the Left Bloc. In June 2011, Tavares became an independent within the Greens–European Free Alliance group. In 2014, he founded the new party LIVRE.

Her work on rituals, symbolic communication and ceremonial influenced research on the exercise of power in the pre-modern era.
