Asaad Abdulameer Al Eidani is an Iraqi politician who has been the Governor of Basra Province since August 2017. He is also deputy secretary-general of the Iraqi National Congress Party.

Grand Ayatollah Muhammad Husayn Fadlallah was a prominent twelver Shia cleric from a Lebanese family. Born in Najaf, Iraq, Fadlallah studied Islam in Najaf before moving to Lebanon in 1952. In the following decades, he gave many lectures, engaged in intense scholarship, wrote dozens of books, founded several Islamic religious schools, and established the Mabarrat Association. Through the aforementioned association, he established a public library, a women's cultural center, and a medical clinic.

Abū Ḥafṣ Qutayba ibn Abī Ṣāliḥ Muslim ibn ʿAmr al-Bāhilī was an Arab commander of the Umayyad Caliphate who became governor of Khurasan and distinguished himself in the conquest of Transoxiana during the reign of al-Walid I (705–715). A capable soldier and administrator, he consolidated Muslim rule in the area and expanded the Caliphate's border to include most of Transoxiana. From 705 to c. 710 he consolidated Muslim control over the native principalities of Tokharistan and conquered the principality of Bukhara, while in 710–712 he conquered Khwarizm and completed the conquest of Sogdiana with the capture of Samarkand. The latter opened the road to the Jaxartes valley, and during the last years of his life Qutayba led annual campaigns there, extending Muslim control up to the Fergana Valley.

Watban Ibrahim al-Nassiri was a senior Interior Minister of Iraq. He was the half brother of Saddam Hussein and the brother of Barzan al-Tikriti. He was taken into coalition custody 13 April 2003, following his capture as he was attempting to flee into Syria.

Saadi Youssef is an Iraqi author, poet, journalist, publisher, and political activist. He has published thirty volumes of poetry in addition to seven books of prose.

Ali Hadi Mohsin was an Iraqi professional football player and manager. He played as a defender for Al-Zawraa and Al-Talaba, winning several titles with the clubs; he also played in Lebanon, for Al-Safa and Al-Ahed.

Aḥmad ibn Faḍlān ibn al-ʿAbbās ibn Rāšid ibn Ḥammād, commonly known as Ahmad ibn Fadlan, was a 10th-century Arab Muslim traveler, famous for his account of his travels as a member of an embassy of the Abbasid Caliph al-Muqtadir of Baghdad to the king of the Volga Bulgars, known as his Risala . His account is most notable for providing a detailed description of the Volga Vikings, including eyewitness accounts of life as part of a trade caravan and witnessing a ship burial. Ibn Fadlan's detailed writings have been cited by numerous historians. They have also inspired entertainment works, including Michael Crichton's novel Eaters of the Dead and its film adaptation The 13th Warrior.

Abdul Ghani Ajeel al-Asadi(Arabic: عبد الغني الاسدي‎), is an Iraqi General and Force Commander of the Iraqi Special Operations Forces. al-Asadi was born in 1951 in Maysan Governorate, Iraq.

Leyla Qasim was a Feyli Kurdish activist against the Iraqi Ba'ath regime who was executed in Baghdad. She is known as a national martyr among the Kurds.
